Tax season is here   –   summary information about your 1099.

You will only receive a 1099:

  •   If you cashed a savings bond in 2022.
  •   If you owned a marketable security which earned interest in 2022.

You will not receive a 1099 if you only purchased a savings bond and did not cash it.

I cashed my electronic bond online through TreasuryDirect.

  • If you cashed an electronic savings bond in TreasuryDirect during 2022, your 1099 is available in your TreasuryDirect account now. To see it:
    • Log in to your account.
    • Select "ManageDirect" at the top of the page.
    • Under "Manage My Taxes", choose the relevant year.
    • Near the top of your taxable transaction summary, choose the link to view your 1099.

For more on how to access and download your 1099, see our video.

NOTE: If you have linked accounts, each can have its own 1099. Check each account. Linked accounts are listed in the lower left corner of your My Account page. Click an account, select “ManageDirect,” and continue as directed above.

I mailed my paper bond into Treasury to be cashed.

  • If you mailed your paper savings bond to Treasury to be cashed and you received payment during 2022, your 1099 statement was mailed out by January 31. (If you need a replacement or duplicate, call us and request it.)

I cashed my paper bond through my local bank.

  • If you cashed your paper savings bonds at a local bank, that bank should provide you with your 1099.

I have a marketable security that earned interest.
